A private family interment service will precede memorial services for Claudia Mae Carrington, 92, of White Oak, which will be 11 AM Wednesday at White Oak Baptist Church with Reverend Noah Lee officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday.
Claudia Mae Carrington was born to Claude Dill and Ethel Mae Lavendusky on April 6, 1914 in East Bernard, Texas. Mrs. Carrington graduated as valedictorian of East Bernard High School in 1930. She received Bachelor’s and Master’s decrees from the University of Texas where she was employed as a student assistant in the School of Education. She was a member of the Lambda Delta and Pi Lambda Theta honorary societies.
In 1939, Claudia married E. B. Carrington, a high school teacher, who later served as superintendent of White Oak ISD and mayor of White Oak. She taught school twenty seven years – two years in Yoakum, one year at Pine Tree and twenty four years at White Oak, where she taught kindergarten, second grade, third grade and fifth grade. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teaches’ society.
Claudia was a member of White Oak Baptist Church where she taught adult Sunday school classes for 37 years. She was an active member of the White Oak Community Club and the Senior Citizens Club of White Oak.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ennis, her husband of 58 years, daughter , Martha Nell, son Ennis B. Carrington, Jr., sister, Ethel Fretz and brother, Claude B. Dill, Jr.
She is survived by son and daughter in law Joe and Shelley Carrington of White Oak, daughters and sons in law Rosanne and Vernon Root of Austin and Sue and James King of White Oak. She is also survived by grandchildren Larry Root and wife Martha of Dripping Springs, Kirk Root and wife Lori of Austin, Leanne Rybicki of Manvel, Stephanie Hunter and husband Rodney of White Oak, Laurie Pilcher and husband Brian of White Oak, Brian King and wife Jacy of Nacogdoches, Travis and Brent Carrington of White Oak and 10 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to White Oak Baptist Church or White Oak Education Foundation.
