Reverend C. Merton Spaulding, 92, of Pueblo, Colo., passed away October 21, 2007. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Lulu Ann Spaulding; sons, Samuel Merton Spaulding, Giles James (Roni) Spaulding, Brent Phillip Spaulding and David Carroll Spaulding; grandchildren, Justin (Jen) Spaulding, Jared Spaulding, Brian Spaulding, Jason Spaulding, Jamie Spaulding, Laura (Jason) Pedrone, Scott Spaulding and Alisha (James) Mihelich; great-grandchildren, Tristan Gilbert, Dessirae Meinert, Emily, Courtney and Lindsey Pedrone; and sister, Lucille Wehmeyer. Merton was born Aug. 23, 1915, in Vassalboro, Maine. He graduated with a B.A. from Taylor University in Upland, Ind., Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas. He was a United Methodist pastor, West Kansas Conference, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas and Colorado, from 1941 until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed his life as a pastor and encouraged church members to know the words of God, the Bible, to experience God’s full salvation, to have revival and evangelism in the church, to uplift the value of Sunday school and promote its growth, to stand for Jesus Christ, the Lord in the United Methodist Church and to be thankful for the call to the ministry. Merton was a member of Kiwanis and Lions Club.Viewing from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors. Funeral service, 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, 11th and Court, Pueblo, Colorado, with Pastors Rick Calhoun and Chuck Gibson officiating.
