Robert T. Whitt, Sr. 78, of 736 Live Oak Place, Owensboro, Kentucky, died Sunday, February 7, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro. He was born on January 24, 1927 in Radford, Virginia to the late Harry Beckwith and Alma Virginia (Linkous) Whitt. He served during World War II in the Pacific theater with the U.S. Army Air Corps, stationed at Okinawa with the 337th Air Service Group. He was selected and qualified for the Aviation Cadet Program for the Air Corps. He attended VPI in Blacksburg, VA and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. He graduated from Milligan College in Milligan, TN with a major in Business Administration and English. He taught and was assistant football and basketball coach at Owensboro Senior High School, where he was also speech and debate coach, golf coach and track coach. He was a volunteer instructor for the American Red Cross in water safety, lifesaving and swimming. He was employed by Radford Arsenal Hercules Power Plant, at Crigler Shoe Store and the U.S. Post Office in Radford, VA. He was district scout executive for the Boy Scouts of American, serving the Owensboro and Madisonville, KY areas. He retired as a professional medical representative for Abbott Laboratories serving Kentucky and Indiana for 30 years. He was a public relations officer and air observer in the Civil Air Patrol with a rank of captain. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War and the Owensboro Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Cook Whitt; a son, Robert T. Whitt, Jr. of Owensboro; a daughter, Virginia Whitt Martinez of Miami, FL; seven grandchildren and two brothers, H.B. Whitt and Calvin C. Whitt both of Radford, VA.

Graveside services are at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro with burial to follow. Visitation is from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Trinity Episcopal Church, 720 Ford Avenue, Owensboro, KY 42301
