Klump, Edward John, 99, born August 27, 1912, died peacefully at Nazareth Home after a short illness.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family and he will be greatly missed.

After graduating from St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School, Edward was a member of the 1930 graduating class of St. Xavier High School. He retired from Joseph E. Seagram and Sons, Inc., which had acquired the old Frankfort Distilleries, where he began his 40-year career a few days before the repeal of Prohibition.

He was married on June 17, 1939 to the late Roberta Hutt Klump, who died in 1993. Edward was a member of St. Louis Bertrand Church for nearly 80 years, where he was an usher, lector, member of the parish council and past president of the Holy Name Society. In addition, he was a Kentucky Colonel, Cub Scout leader and a Republican precinct captain for many years.

Besides his wife, preceding him in death were his son, Thomas Robert Klump, his brother Rev. Emmanuel Klump OFM Conv., and his sisters Alice Klump and Elizabeth Dries.

Survivors include his sons, Edward J. (Betty), James B., Terence J. (Freda), Deacon William R. (Barbara) and D. Gregory (Linda); daughter-in-law, Mrs. Thomas R. Klump (Valentine); sisters, Mary Catherine Deibel and Helen Belshoff; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

The family expresses heartfelt thanks to all of the employees of the Nazareth Home who cared for him.

Visitation will be at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road on Sunday, February 19th from 2-5 & 6-9 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Louis Bertrand Church, 1104 S. Sixth Street, Monday at 9:30 a.m., with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Louis Bertrand Church.
