Alice Summers Roberts was born to Everett and Neosho Hazel Fisher in St. Paul, Minnesota. When she was a baby, her family moved to Albany and founded Fisher Funeral Home. Alice completed Albany schools, graduated from Oregon State College, then earned her Master's in English from Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
Alice and John Summers of Lebanon married in 1934. Seven years later, they moved to Albany, becoming partners in the family business. Together they raised two children, teaching them to love the outdoors, lust for travel and knowledge, appreciate the arts and spectator sports, and know the importance of faith, family and friendship. John passed away at 44 years. Alice married John Roberts, a longtime family friend, in 1998. He preceded her in death in 2001.
Throughout her life, Alice put her quiet energy toward her love for family and enriching the lives of others. She was known as a listener, mentor, leader and contributor. Her community service, civic contributions, and membership in the United Presbyterian Church filled her days, and in 1968 she was named Linn County Woman of the Year.
Alice's quiet dignity and graciousness was the undercurrent of her family life, even when her eyes twinkled during her spirited renditions of "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "The Crooked Mouth" stories. Her home was filled with much fun, laughter and love.
Alice is survived by her son John Summers of Seattle, her daughter Margaret Buchanan of Corvallis, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her sister Martha Fisher Kropp and her brother Dr. William A. Fisher preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be at 1pm, Wednesday July 2nd, 2014, at Fisher Funeral Home with reception to follow. Private interment was in the Masonic Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Fanconi Anemia Foundation or Samaritan Evergreen Hospice c/o Fisher Funeral Home, 306 SW Washington St., Albany, OR 97321.
