KOHLER, Donald Clarence, 78, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Hosparus of Louisville.
He was a combat veteran of the Korean War and a member of St. Martha Catholic Church. He had retired from McClean Trucking Company and was a member of the International Brotherhood of the Teamsters, local chapter #89. Don was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Middletown Post #1170, the past 6th District Chaplain and 6th District Commander. He was also a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge #8, the Air Force Sargeant’s Association, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, the Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Chapter and the Kosair Shrine Temple. He served his country proudly in the U. S. Air Force and the U. S. Army.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Louise Kohler and his daughter, Donna Marie Chesser.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Alma McKenzie Kohler; his daughter, Mary Louise Flaherty; a brother, Thomas Albert Kohler; a grandson, Anthony Xavier Flaherty and two granddaughters, Mary Rolonda Chesser and Dana Marie Chesser.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Saturday, November 14, 2009 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Lane with burial to follow in St. Michael Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered. Visitation will be 2 – 5 P.M. and 6 – 8 P.M. Friday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road where a prayer service will be held at 4 P.M. Friday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Kosair Charities.
