"A Time to Be Born"

Bennie Charles Lipsey was born December 10, 1944 in Yazoo City, MS to the late Charles Hunt and Hazel Lipsey. He was the first of five children.

"A Time To Live"

Around the age of four, Bennie's parents relocated to Jackson, MS, where he confessed Christ and united with the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorialship of Pastor W.C. Whitfield. Bennie attended and graduated from Sallie Reynolds Elementary School and Jim Hill High School, both of Jackson, MS. While in high school, he played the trumpet in the marching band. He also attended Utica Jr. College of Utica, MS. Bennie decided to sprout his wings at the age of twenty-three when he moved to East St. Louis, IL. There in 1967 he met Sadie Kirkland. The following year on February 17th they were joined in matrimony. Out of this union came two sons, Bennie Charles Lipsey, Jr. and Reginald Cortez Lipsey and one daughter, Alicia Yulonda Lipsey.

In 1977, Bennie sprouted his wings once again and landed in St. Louis, MO. There he met Loretta Davison. On April 14, 1979 they were wed and the following year a son, Carl Brandon Lipsey was born.

In St. Louis he united with Bethesda Temple of the Apostolic Faith under the leadership of Bishop James A. Johnson. There he served in the Singles Ministry, AFM Ministry, Usher Board and Brotherhood Choir. Some of his other enjoyments were music, basketball, baseball games, cooking and fishing although he wasn't very good at it. His favorite foods were food.

Bennie also resided in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Champaign, IL. Bennie worked various jobs and retired from Granite City Steel in 2003 after a lengthy career there.
