Anthony J. Gallo, Jr. passed away at his home in Port St. Lucie, Florida with his family at his side due to heart failure. He was born and raised in Rutland, Vermont. Shortly after graduating from the University of Vermont with a B.A. degree in 1960, he entered active duty as a regular army officer. His military career included command assignments up through the brigade level and various senior Pentagon staff assignments to include Director, Crisis Planning and Assessment Group, Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Iranian Embassy hostage crisis. Upon retirement in 1987, he spent the next twenty years in the private business sector. He was the owner and CEO of the Bay City Bagel Company in Ellicott City, MD and the President of USIS International in Falls Church, VA, where he retired in January 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Jan; daughters, Lori Loy and spouse, David of Culpeper, VA and Liz Quattrone and spouse, Joe of Laurel, MD; son, Christopher Gallo of Los Angeles, CA; two stepsons, Robert Winterbottom of Austin, TX and Brian Mileshosky and spouse, Katelyn of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Ellen Bove and spouse, Ralph of Rutland, VT and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Gallo, his mother, Ellen Gallo and his brother, Rodney Gallo. Funeral services will be held at the Fort Myer Old Post Chapel on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 12:45 P.M. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
