Lou and family,
We want to offer both our love and sympathy to all of you. Lou, you and Mert both meant alot to us.
Mert was a special person, but so were you. We loved to hear you sing together; it always touched us.
We are thinking of you during this time and always.

Lu, I want to extend my sympathy to you and your family. Mert was a pastor and friend to the Rolla UMC community and we appreciated his good works for the Lord. Dorothy

I remember Mert & Lu when they were pastors of the Rolla/Richfield UMC in KS. He was a gentle soul who loved God and his family and took care of a couple of foster children to help them out! May Lu be comforted by the fact she will see him again!

As a fellow pastor in Kansas, I always appreciated Merton's smile and positive witness. I expect he is smiling now. God be with you all.

Merton was always a friend. I remember he and Lucille always being together at Annual Conference. One of the things we had in common was Perkins School of Theology and we would check in with each other at Alumni events. My prayers are with the family as we all give thanks to God for the witness of this servant.

Anita and I remember Merton as he welcomed us when we moved to Cimarron-Kalvesta in the Dodge City District in 1983. He was a warm energetic pastor whose enthusiasm for the work was infectuous.

I have so many wonderful memories of times spent with Uncle Mert and Aunt Lu. Times spent together at the farm and on a couple of occasions visiting them in Kansas. It was a special time when the Spaulding family came to visit, lots of laughter and fun. I can still hear Uncle Mert and Aunt Lu singing together. I've been sitting here taking a trip down memory lane; as kids we'd jump in the hay mow, swing on the ropes and play cowboys and Indians (and we even had pretend guns!) I remember pushing David around in a buggy when he was little and so many more great times. Our love and prayers are with you all. I wish I could be with you today. Love, Martha
