After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Emily Blaskey passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital on Monday, March 28, 2016 with her family at her side. She was 74 years old. Emily was born in Bridgeport on January 11, 1942 and graduated from Bassick High School. In later years she made her home in Fairfield. Survivors include her loving husband of over 54 years, David Blaskey, and her two sons, David of Chatham, NJ and Jonathan of Trumbull and her daughters-in-laws Linda and Michele. Emily will sadly be missed by her six grandchildren Trey, Nicholas, Grace, Dalton, Jack and Micheal. Emily spent her entire life working in the medical profession. As a teenager in the 1950s she worked in Bridgeport as a Candy Striper, assisting nurses in a volunteer capacity. Those key early years serving people in need helped Emily decide that her calling in life was to become a Nurse. A 1963 honors graduate of The University of Bridgeport Nursing School, Emily started her first full-time nursing job at Park City Hospital, which she stayed employed with until it closed in the early 1990s. From there she moved on to Bridgeport Hospital and worked in various medical related positions. Until a month ago, Emily was still making her rounds at Bridgeport Hospital as a Care Coordinator. A life well-lived is reflected by the people who surround you during your final days. During Emily's final days many of her co-workers, young and old, mentioned how much she was loved and would visit Emily, often holding her hand, kissing her cheek, and telling her how important she was to them. Many will remember her as the energetic and hardworking person that she was throughout her career. Emily loved her grandchildren who were the joy of her life. She also enjoyed traveling the world and experiencing different cultures. With her husband she planned two big trips a year. Emily also was a fast and prolific reader, often spending many Saturday mornings at the Fairfield Library. Routinely she would read two to three books a week. A perfect day for Emily would be a sitting at St Mary's by the Sea in Black Rock with her husband at her side. Emily was also a devoted parishioner of St. Ann Church in Black Rock. She will be very missed by her family and her many friends. To all of Emily's work and personal friends, who helped our family grieve during this hard time, we just want to let you know your love and strength will always be appreciated. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St Ann Church, 481 Brewster Street, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Emily's name to the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation – Norma Pfriem Cancer Institute, 267 Grant Street, Bridgeport, CT 06610 or to a charity of your choice.
